July 31 - St. Barthelemy to Deschambault - 124 km

After breakfast we continued along the Route Verte (following a road called the Chemin du Roy), and also along Highway 138. More pretty farming area and small villages. One interesting note is that, in the older parts of the villages the houses are built right beside the street. Newer subdivisions have the houses set further back.

We got our first glimpse of the St. Lawrence River today. The morning was very grey, so I don't think the pictures are very good.

We went through a bunch of small towns (Maskinonge, Yamachiche, Pointe-du-Lac) before hitting Trois Rivieres. Another chunk of bad luck for me - my first flat of the trip (although better than road rash). By now it had been raining so everything was muddy and dirty.

Laura navigated us through TR. We lingered over lunch waiting for the rain to quit, again (and again, and again). After a while it abated and we continued along more beautiful little towns along the St. Lawrence. The day ended in Deschambault, at another B&B called La Maison Jaune (yes, it is yellow). The house is very old with the original walls being abut 2.5 feet thick stone and mortar. The house has been added to using wood construction. This appears to be typical of the older houses all along here.

Deschambault is a very pretty little town. The older section has a typical Quebec style church, a Presbytere, Convent, Hotel de Ville and others. There is a monument dedicated to the St. Lawrence river pilots.

And, finally another great B&B and breakfast. One marvellous aspect of B&Bs is chatting with the owners. This will be one of our lasting memories of the trip.

Aug 5 - the photos I added are of a group of red brick houses in one of the towns we passed through, the Cathedral in Trois Riviere, and the original city hall in Deschambault
