August 9 - Campbellton to Beresford - 109 km

The five of us hit the road today under a slight drizzle that quit after a couple of hours. We had nice riding for most of the day, but got caught by a shower for the last half hour. We're in Beresford, just north of Bathurst.

We're riding along the northern coast of NB, on the Acadian Penninsula. French is still the predominate language, but everybody switches to English instantly. The countryside has changed since the Quebec side two days ago, but I'm not sure I can explain exactly why. I did notice that the style of the village churches has changed - they are predominately brick rather than stone and don't have aluminum painted roofs. The houses seem to have less brick and stone on their exteriors. It's pretty country, with more industry than we saw along the Gaspe. The highway along the coast (134) is an easy ride with few hills and varying amounts of paved shoulders. The bad shoulders were compensated with by not much traffic.

We went through Dalhousie and found out that the town's pulp mill and chemical plant have both shut down earlier this year, so that town is hurting. We also passed a couple of hydro power plants and a (stinky) zinc smelter.

Time for dinner - I'll add photos at a later date.

Hey Greg and Laura.
You guys seem to have a wounderful roadtrip. You will either be completely worn out or in shape to participate in the next summer Olympics. Sasha may not be here to great you when you get back. She is not doing well. I have 10 days more or less with her. It looks like the operation was not a success. She is back to post op condition. It hurts.
